Ensemble LIME is Norway’s only ensemble specializing in microtonal music. The ensemble was established in 2022 by young musicians from the Norwegian Academy of Music, with the aim of creating a platform for exploration and dissemination of a field that has long had little place in Norwegian music life. Since its first concert in Majorstuen Church, the ensemble has made its mark at venues such as Ultima and Ung Nordisk Musikk, and has premiered a number of new works.

Microtonality challenges established notions of intonation and tone, opening up new possibilities for both performers and audiences. Ensemble LIME aims to showcase the breadth of this field, from historically important repertoire works to newly written compositions.

The ensemble is led by conductor Arian Pedersen and consists of musicians trained at leading institutions in Norway and Europe. As a flexible sinfonietta, the ensemble adapts to each project, from small formats to larger productions. Since its inception, the ensemble has premiered 21 works and performed music by Eivind Buene, Lisa Streich, Idin Samimi Mofakham, James Tenney, and others.

Ensemble LIME strives to live up to the lime fruit itself. It should be both sour and sweet!
